If you go to the website called Ask an Astrophysicist you will find an article which shows the amount of force on the earth by all the other planets aligned. It's very, very small. Your prediction is wrong. Roger |

I remember doing those calculations myself decades ago and posting the results on the sci.geo.earthquakes usenet group. Same results. The force is terribly weak. What's more is that there's really no tidal force from the other planet's gravity fields. Tidal force is caused by a difference in pull on the near side compared to the far side of the planet. Meaning the difference in pull from Jupiter on Earth's near side and far side is very very small, therefore very very small tidal force. Earth's moon exhibits a strong tidal force because being closer, the difference in gravitational pull on the near side and far side of the Earth from the Moon is significant. If gravity were to have an affect, it would be caused by tides. Lunar tides, being the strongest, have already been studied and shown to have insufficient effect on earthquakes except in exceptional circumstances, and even then it was very small and only affected small quakes, not large ones As for the original posting, the language used in their warning is so muddled with cushy weasel words that grammatically speaking, anything or nothing at all could happen, and the author could claim to be right.
