Subject: NEIC QUAKE FILE

Hi all;

This is directed to anyone involved in trying to predict earthquakes.

One of the tools needed in quake research is a file of past quakes. NEIC has a file of all mag 2.5+ quakes starting in 1973 and continuing to the present time.

The problem is that the file contains a lot of extra information, making it difficult to work with when all you want is the quakes.

Additionally, they limit the number of quakes one can download at any one time.

But I have managed to download the entire file, a little at a time, and distilled it down to just the quakes date, time, location, depth and magnitude.

Currently there are 897,108 quakes in the file. I use it to compute probabilities for the most part.

I'm wondering if there is a market for this file.
It's a necessary tool in forecasting efforts.

The sad irony is that the very folks who would benefit
the most from such a file have zero interest in it as
they at least subconsciously (if not outright consciously)
know the damage such information would wreak should it
be applied in earnest to their predictions.

Skywise;

That certainly applies to some of them.

The others just wouldn't know what to do with it.
