Subject: request for prayers for son

Yesterday, my son was in his home when the neighbor's
pit bull actually pushed through his front door and
shot toward his daughter and new puppy playing in the
livingroom.

He threw himself between them and the dog. The dog
locked onto his arm and would not release even with his
wife trying to pull it off, and son punching the dog in
the head. Police arrived and several of them were able
to get his arm released and the dog contained in a hall
until animal control arrived and took it away.

My son has many, many stitches in his arm. When he got
to the ER, tendons were exposed in his arm and there
was a lot of muscle damage. We're hoping there's no
nerve and tendon damage.

He works as a wind turbine technician, and he's now on
medical leave as there's no way to climb the towers
with a sling and only one arm to do his job.

Thank God he was there to protect his 7 yr old
daughter. This is the son who's also in the National
Guard.

Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Just saw this - certainly prayers for his full recovery.
How frightened that must have been for him and his wife
and all the family.

I talked to him yesterday and he's back at work (light
office duty, not full physical work load yet). His doc
said he is very lucky, and there's no apparent nerve or
tendon damage.

His arm is healing well overall...still has a few
stitches to be removed in the next week.

Thank you for the prayers.

Good to see your update on your son, Red! What a shame it had to
happen at all, but at least there’s no permanent damage… ;)

Hope his healing continues.

Something that helped me when I've had chronic pain,
learned from Jack Schwarz years ago:

When the pain comes up, it's your body communicating a
message for attention. So, thank your body, thank the
pain thank the nerve pathways and tell the body, you
know the problem is there, and is getting help. So now
tell the body the pain is no longer required, it has
permission to heal, and it is loved.

You may remember Jack Schwarz as someone who was
studied by the Meninger Clinic for his ability to
control and communicate with his body.

what a wonderful, compassionate way to deal with your
body.

As a person closer to the last half than the first, I
have many aches and pains (minor stuff) and end up
cussing at my body lol.

I will try your technique on my own, and pass it along
to son as well (although they had him on enough pain
killers I'm not sure he's feeling it yet lol). He will
have to come off those soon, though.

This method has worked for me, friends, and even
someone who was injured after an accident who was going
into shock and it helped to calm her.

If you try it first and then have confidence in the
method your confidence will comfort and teach as well.

Jack Schwarz would puncture himself with long needles,
even the heart, pull them out and have his body heal
the wounds rapidly. He was a phenomenon.

He was in the Dutch underground during WW2 when
captured by the Nazis and whipped. He went into a
meditative state and the wounds healed as quickly as
given. This frightened the Nazis and they let him go.

This method's language isn't strictly his, my
interpretation & mixed with a little Kahuna training I
was also doing at the time. ;)

The Kahuna would speak to the body as if it were a
child, with loving care.

Prayers and Golden Healing light being sent to him for
a speedy and healthy recovery.

Re the suing - you may not be able to sue the dog's
owner, who was a guest at the home, but you certainly
can sue the homeowner because he 'knowingly' allowed a
guest with a potentially dangerous dog stay at his
home. Thus the homeowner's insurance 'should' cover the
costs. But if your son has permanent damage that will
prohibit him from doing the work he was trained to do -
then yes, I would consider suing for a lot of $

Although I do realize the dog itself isn't dangerous -
rather the irresponsible dog owner who either hadn't
trained his dog like he should or failed to properly
supervise the dog.

Thank you, everyone.

We went over to his place yesterday to do what we could
to help. He is doing good. Has a sling and medical
leave for 2 weeks at least, on a ton an antibiotics and
painkillers.

So far, it doesn't look like tendon or nerve damage
(can wiggle fingers and no numbness/tingling).

We joked about him staying away from animals. This is
the same son that took on a mountain lion with a
weedwhacker a few years back.

The man who owned the dog was a "guest" of another
renter in his building and has been forbidden to return
by the landlord/owners...police reports on file. The
man is unemployed and suing or waiting for him to cover
medical costs is probably pointless. Luckily, Son has
good medical insurance via his company.

We do appreciate all the prayers and healing thoughts
for him and his family. They've had a rough couple of
days.

Oh wow. Physically took a deep breathe when you said
that part about the tendons etc.
Mine never recovered and I remember trying to climb the
vertical ladders at work and hooking R arm hoist up
body pretend left is normal, day after day, so have
been watching your sons story with interest and prayer,
as I also was latched onto by one while doing a paper
route. Luckily just a puncture but never forgot that
but DAMN that story is frightening to read as a former
construction worker who was never afraid of heights.

So hopefully when the real healing crisis starts he'll
see just how many pieces Humpty has left.

In my prayers.
Mark.

What a brave quick-thinking boy you have. May the healing
go well both physical and mental. I hate that it was a
pitbull. Ive always thought its the owners fault and I
hope there will be consequences.

funny side note, he's also the boy that had a stand off
with a mountain lion in the back yard. Fought the big
cat off with a weedwhacker (both were unhurt in the
incident). He was 17 at the time and still living at
home. When he was inducted into the National Guard, I
told his induction officer about it, and told him to
forget the target practice, give this boy a weed
whacker (and the sergeant laughed pretty hard).

He said, "Well, this boy's certainly not a coward.
We'll take him!"

We were teasing him a little bit yesterday, telling him
he needs to stay away from zoos and anywhere with large
animals from now on lol.

And yes, I blame the owner. I am involved in dog
training in our community. It's rare to see a truly bad
dog of any breed--even pitbulls who can be very sweet
if socialized and trained properly. What happens is bad
owners...and that's very sad for all involved.

The only issue with pit bulls, imo, is they are very
strong and can do a lot of damage if not trained
properly (as can any large, strong breed). We tell all
our new puppy owners of large breed dogs, they need to
take extra care in training because of this, get them
friendly and socialized right from the beginning. An
unsocialized dog becomes a fearful dog, which becomes
an aggressive dog..and if you also have no control,
then you have a big problem (and so does everyone
around them).

Did they at least quarantine the dog for 14 days? Did they cite the owner?
He should go before a judge. Judges do not take too well to an owner of a
dog bite. Unemployed are not the irresponsible jerk should have been in
control of his dog. Animal bites are no fun and swell pretty bad. I’m just so
relieved your granddaughter didn’t get hurt.

I know animal control is involved. There's also a
police case and investigation, so I don't know how long
they hold a dog that's part of an investigation. No
doubt he'll be put down at some point. That's sad for
any pet, and I blame the owner for that. His dog is
another victim of his irresponsibility.

Apparently, the dog was fully vaccinated (so no rabies
threat).

There's a lot of details surrounding what the officials
are doing that I don't have yet. Son has a police
report # and was told there may be follow up
interviews.

The last two days we have been more concerned with our
son, his family and getting him care and his family
support through this. I'm sure we'll probably get more
details later, but we'll let the officials take care of
that for now.

Yes, we're so grateful our granddaughter didn't get
hurt. She's just a little thing at 7 yrs old and I'm
not sure she could have survived such an assault if the
dog had decided to target her, or our son had not put
himself between his family and the dog.

Thanks on their behalf :)

Thank you Redhart for conveying this information. It kind of puts my mind
at ease, lol! I had an incident years ago with a pit bull when I was about 4
months pregnant with my son. I had been working as an Animal Control
Officer at the time and responded to a dog bite call in which a law
enforcement officer had been bit. When I got there the owner had it in the
garage. I was talking to the person that got bit when the owner opened
the electric garage door and the dog bolted out making a bee line for me.
Thank goodness I had my come along ready and by a miracle caught the
dog mid air!

He drug me around the yard for about two minutes until I got the back
rope in the metal pole tight enough to choke him out. He was groggy
enough to get him over to my vehicle where I had to argue with the law
enforcement officer to grab his tail to lift him into the truck. He was afraid
to touch it but I assured him I had control of his head.

When I got back into my vehicle, I was seeing stars! I ended up having to
go out for two weeks because I almost lost my son from it. It was a scary
incident to say the least!

Have a great holiday and enjoy that beautiful family of yours .

wow, quite a story. I'm sure you've seen a lot if you
were Animal Control.

But yes, they are very strong dogs. All the more reason
that those that bring one home need to be especially
responsible with their socialization and training to
keep them under control. They can be lovely dogs if the
owner does so.
