Hey folks,
Here's an important tip. If you're down hand vacuuming
under your desk; when living in the forest, in the
mountains, keep a very sharp lookout for dead scorpion's.
I had a very close call just now!
Will

ick...yeah, I live in the mountains, although things
I've found while cleaning vary. The dog likes to bring
in lizards sometimes (took us three days to catch the
baby lizard in the dining room), I have found baby
snakes (thankfully, both non-poisonous gopher snakes),
and more recently a mom-wolf spider. I stepped on one
once...never again. This one I trapped with a cup and
took outside very carefully.

They carry a couple hundred babies on their backs. If
you step on them, the babies disperse!

Other notable uninvited house guests: a bat when the
kids left an upstairs window open... a baby squirrel
(gently picked up and put back outside), toads (they
like to wait until someone opens a door and hop
in)...and our lab mix joy found a nest of baby mice in
the yard and decided she could take care of them. We
found her very gently carrying them around in the house
only to be discovered when "squeaking" was heard coming
from her mouth and a tiny tail hung out between her
lips. The mouse was unharmed (but soggy).

Living with nature is a gift..but can be a challenging
at time and require you are always prepared for the
unexpected !

No worries - I live in the forest in the PNW - don't have
scorpions! Or poisonous snakes. But when I lived in the
Mojave desert, I did find dead scorpions in the dryer -
among the clothes that were just dried. I figured they
crawled in through the dryer vent. And had a black widow
house spider - named her Henrietta - we didn't bother
each other and she lived long enough to lay her eggs
before the winter months.
