Yes, he thought it would be too dividing and more trauma for a country that was already going through the real estate/banking crisis coming out of the Bush term. He very much wanted to bring an already divided country together rather than cause more trauma and division when he got in. Mistake? Perhaps. More accountability and holding responsible those entities that were (either maliciously, or by severe negligence) might have headed off some of the issues we see now...but hindsight is 20/20. Would be interesting to talk to him and see if he would have gone back and done it differently now. He was dealing with such a massive banking crisis when he took over, and wanting to get the country fully back on line from it. |
