Donald Trump has landed on cows as his closing message in his campaign for a second term as president, much to the befuddlement of observers.
The former president has been claiming for years that Democrats want to ban cows to fight climate change, but he's leaning into those bizarre claims even harder in this election than he did in 2020, when he also warned that "cows are out."
“Kamala even wants to pass laws to outlaw red meat to stop climate change,” the Republican nominee told supporters in North Carolina. “That means no more cows. You know, this is serious.”
“She wants to get rid of your cows," he told supporters in Georgia. "No more cows."
"They want to do things like no more cows, and no windows in buildings," the ex-president told a crowd in Las Vegas. "They have some wonderful plans for this country. Honestly, they're crazy."
"I love cows," Trump told "Fox & Friends," in response to a 6-year-old boy's question about his favorite farm animal. "But if we go with Kamala, you won't have any cows anymore because we're not allowed. I don't want to ruin this kid's day. I love cows, I think they're so cute and so beautiful. But according to Kamala, who's a radical left lunatic, you will not have any cows anymore, so we have to vote her out. If you like cows, you have to vote for me."
The former president's obsession with cows has raised more than a few eyebrows.
"They’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats. And now, they’re banning the cows," wrote Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank. "Or so says Donald Trump. No bull! The steaks could not be higher in this election."
The "Fox & Friends" hosts laughed along with his answer to the grade schooler's question, but some felt his delivery was odd.
"Tell me this isn't the youngs sitting with the old timer who's trying to tell a joke he can't remember how to tell," said blogger John Stoehr.
"Trump is asked by a 6-year-old what Trumps favorite farm animal is Cows," added psychology professor David Lester. "But tells the poor boy we won’t have cows anymore if Kamala is elected. lol 'I love cows.. I think they’re so cute and beautiful..' Don’t forget tasty! You know Trump loves his burgers."
"Roundup of looney things Trump is saying," said journalist Jeff Jarvis. "I am of two minds about treating it with humor: He's dangerous but if mockery works.... Donald Trump’s hysterical closing argument: Save the cows!"
"Trump predicted the end of America if Biden won in 2020 and he is saying much the same about a Harris win in 2024," said Martin Frank, former executive director of the Physiological Society. "Read Dana Milbank to see the commonality of Trump's predictions."
"Same old, same old prophesies, none of which came true 4 years ago and won't come true now," added the X account Eisenhower Time.
