Most Americans in new survey list inflation, homelessness as very
serious problems

BY FILIP TIMOTIJA 08/31/24 10:55 AM ET

Most Americans listed inflation and homelessness as very serious
problems, as concerns around rising antisemitism and illegal immigration
have increased in the last year, per a new survey.

The YouGov poll, released Thursday, found that for a third year in a row,
inflation has topped the list as a very serious problem on voters minds
with 67 percent saying the issue is a major concern going into the 2024
election. A similar survey from last year showed 68 percent of Americans
thought inflation was a serious issue, while only 64 percent said the same
in 2022.

Homelessness and debt were second on the list, among 32 topics polled,
each bringing in 59 percent. In 2023, homelessness was seen as a serious
problem for 60 percent of Americans while debt stood at 52 percent, the
survey found.

Pollsters also noted that concerns around rising antisemitism and illegal
immigration have risen in the past 12 months. Roughly 31 percent of
respondents said antisemitism is a very serious problem, an 8 percent
increase from both last year and 2022.

Illegal immigration, one of the top issues in this presidential election
cycle, is now a serious concern for over half of respondents or 53
percent. In 2023, the issue polled at 49 percent while it was at 43 percent
in 2022.

One issue voters were less concerned about in the latest poll was violent
crime. The survey found that 53 percent thought crime was a serious
problem in 2024 a near double-digit decline from last years 62
percent.

Voters in the two major parties have different views on what the most
pressing issues in the country are. For Democrats, gun violence was at the
top with 81 percent, followed by climate change (75 percent), poverty (70
percent), homelessness (70 percent) and a lack of access to health care
(66 percent), per the survey.

The poll found that for Republicans inflation was the main issue at 89
percent. Illegal immigration came in second with 86 percent followed by
debt (66 percent) and drug abuse (66 percent).

The YouGov survey was conducted between Aug 7-10 among 1,138 adults.
The margin of error was approximately 4 percentage points.

Maybe if they hadn't run a guy that told constant lies,
was convicted of crimes, had over a million people die
under his administration while suggesting they take
dewormer and inject bleach, was already a loser when
rerunning last time, cheats on his wife, cheats on his
taxes and actually attacked his own government capitol
to cheat an election and take power by force, their
party would be doing better.

Naw, that wouldn't have anything to do with his issues
with his campaign.

Republican response?

Cut taxes for the rich!

....,........

All recent Republican budget plans create significant
tax breaks for the ultrawealthy with offsets that harm
everyone else. Extending the 2017 Republican tax cuts
is expected to cost trillions of dollars over the next
decade, adding $4.6 trillion to the deficit. In
particular, provisions that overwhelmingly benefit the
wealthy like the deduction for gpass-through
businessesh and the higher estate and gift tax
exemptions would respectively add $684 billion and $167
billion to the deficit over 10 years. And these cuts
are on top of the over $1.3 trillion tax cut that
Republicans gave to corporations over 10 years starting
in 2017. To gpay forh these tax giveaways, Republicans
continue to call for strict, across-the-board cuts that
harm American families and seniors. At least one
Republican plan would completely eliminate all funding
for public goods like nutrition programs for kids,
hospital care for veterans, public safety, and many
other vital government functions.

Recent Republican budget plans would force drastic cuts
to federal spending, hurting Americans across the
country.

If Americans truly care about those still struggling
(even though many are already doing better)..then they
should seriously stay away from the GOP economic plan.
It'll be disastrous for those people, set those doing
okay right now back, and disastrous for our country and
economy.

But hey, Elon and Bezos thinks it'll be great.

Homelessness was no less an important issue a month
ago, has the GOP response changed?

Have the budget plans changed in the last few weeks?
These things take months to put together for a platform
and it takes something huge to change what a committee
put together with consensus.

You call me a troll for that? Wow. That's nothing but
hollow arrogance.

Homelessness has been an issue for years..and it got
worse under Trump, not better. His idea is to round them
all up and put them in camps. Out of sight, out of
mind, I guess.

No thanks..lets try some other things first.

He calls everyone a Troll, Mitra lol Welcome to the
club. It's a big one.

Ah. Okay. You don't care about the issues or response,
only that you can post something negative with
impunity.

The GOP budget plan is a response to what they consider
top issues.

thats disingenuous. what was posted was an article about the top issues
with voters and you are trying to change the topic. that happens a lot here
even though bopps own rules say stay on topic. did you even read what
the important issues are to voters? you said the other day the election
was all about democracy or dictator yet that doesnt seem to be a
deciding factor on the minds of voters. thoughts?
