How much does the American Dream cost after historically high inflation? Portrait of Jim Sergent Jim Sergent
USA TODAY Donald Trump pledged to "bring back the American Dream" at the Republican National Convention in July. At last week's Democratic National Convention, presidential nominee Kamala Harris saluted Americans "who work hard (and) chase their dreams."
But just how big do we need to dream now when it comes to our finances?
USA TODAY has put the "dream" in financial terms several times – even as recently as this spring. The GoBankingRates analysis determined the American Dream now costs more than $150,000 a year for a family of four, but that figure differs widely depending on where you live.

first off there was no inflation!
it was all Donald Trump's tariff plan. NAFTA now defunct. Trump put small tariffs on both Canada and Mexico. then ten days he used executive orders to raise those tariffs to 40%! Trump called on all American auto makers to bring back to the US the jobs they farmed out! mostly Mexico so they closed the manufacturing plants and Biden got credit for creating new US jobs, through tariff funding of IRA. inflation reduction act. but what really hurt was the 40% tariff on Canadian lumber and when covid hit and US mills shut down Trudeau in Canada added 11% excise tax on US exported lumber. this act raised new home prices by about $100,000 and then hit by a increase in property taxes. all this followed the increase of your home owners insurance prices too! it looks like inflation but A Tariff is a sales TAX put on a import, the government collects this.
I could go on! so I will partly. when Trump lost the election he signed 1300 tariffs of 40% on nearly every country that exported anything to the US. just visit the Dollar Tree store and view for your self how much things cost now as tariffs of 25% to 40% hit almost every item. to me this hurts the elderly big time that rely on SSI!
all this goes to your coffee and where does your winter food supply come from? they got those tariffs too! so are you better off under Biden or Trump? Biden has not removed them, but he spent 3 trillion dollars to pay down the deficit.
do you think the travesty of the border just might be those workers from Central America coming to the US to get their jobs back at higher wages/union shops? was that Trumps doing? Hmmm let me think on that....

The "Dollar Store" became the $1.25 store...thank you Trump's tariffs.
He' would like to increase those on everything next if elected, even food. That means: higher prices on basics across the board, not just on specific nat security tech, cars and stuff.
That WILL cause inflation.
The importers just add it to the price, which we pay.
We end up paying the tariffs.
