Subject: Putin predicts Trump will ‘systematically’ go after Greenland |

Like Putin *systemically* went after the Donbas? Now who is calling the shots?
I want to immigrate to the United States. Anybody have a clue as to where I could find it?
*********
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday the Trump administration likely will move to acquire Greenland “systemically” after months of swipes at the autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.
“It is obvious that the United States will continue to systematically promote its geostrategic, military- political and economic interests in the Arctic. As for Greenland, this is a matter that concerns two specific states and has nothing to do with us,” the Kremlin leader told a crowd during his address at the International Arctic Forum hosted in Russia.
“But at the same time, of course, we are only concerned about the fact that NATO countries as a whole are increasingly designating the High North as a springboard for possible conflicts and are practicing the use of troops in these conditions, including with the forces of their new recruits — Finland and Sweden, with which, by the way, until recently we had no problems at all,” Putin said, according to translations.
His comments came a day after President Trump reiterated his intent to acquire the Arctic territory.
“We need Greenland for national security and international security. So we’ll, I think, we’ll go as far as we have to go,” Trump told reporters Wednesday in the Oval Office.
“We need Greenland. And the world needs us to have Greenland, including Denmark. Denmark has to have us have Greenland. And, you know, we’ll see what happens. But if we don’t have Greenland, we can’t have great international security.”
During his remarks, Putin addressed the United States’ long-standing intent to purchase the island after the establishment of military bases within the island to protect it from Nazi rule during World War II.
“After the end of the war, the United States offered Denmark to buy these islands quite recently by the standards of world history,” Putin said.
“In short, we are talking about serious plans on the American side with regard to Greenland,” he added.
Vice President Vance and second lady Usha Vance are both scheduled to be in Greenland on Friday, with visits slated at an American base in Pituffik further fueling questions about the Trump administration’s intentions in the Arctic.
Usha Vance’s participation in other public events was canceled following days of controversy over military plans shared in Signal group chat with Vice President Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and other high-level officials.
National security adviser Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are also expected to join the trip to the island that’s rich in raw minerals, a commodity recently identified as desirable by Trump throughout peace negotiations with Russia and Ukraine.
Despite speculation about ulterior motives, the president said the trip is intended to encourage friendly relations.
“This is friendliness, not provocation. We’re dealing with a lot of people from Greenland that would like to see something happen with respect to their being properly protected and properly taken care of. They’re calling us. We’re not calling them. And we were invited over there, and I thought it would be great,” Trump said during a Cabinet meeting.
If the U.S. acquires Greenland, it would add to the presence of Western alliances in the Northern hemisphere in areas surrounding the Kremlin’s sovereign borders.
Finland and Sweden were approved for NATO membership in 2024, which grants them access to weapons and other defense resources through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency.
Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, all NATO members, announced their intent to withdraw from the 1997 Ottawa Convention treaty outlawing the use of anti-personnel landmines earlier this month, citing the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine as a factor in their decision.
Putin said Russian leaders are noting the rise in tensions and preparing to respond accordingly.
“I would like to emphasize that Russia has never threatened anyone in the Arctic, but we are closely monitoring the development of the situation, building an adequate response line, increasing the combat capabilities of the armed forces and modernizing military facilities,” the Kremlin leader said.

If Trump grabs Greenland and NATO does nothing about it, Canada is next as it will be completely surrounded. Trump might gamble that NATO will do nothing about it as well. Maybe Trump will make a deal with Putin. Russia gets to shape Europe in any way it wants and America gets to do the same with North and South America. It sounds like a nightmare but sometimes nightmares happen.

Rump ‘very angry’ at Putin’s remarks on Zelensky by Tara Suter - 03/30/25 11:46 AM ET
President Trump said he is “very angry” and “pissed off” at remarks Russian President Vladimir Putin made Friday about Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, suggesting he is not a legitimate leader.
The president threatened to slap a new tariff on Russia if it is at fault for stalling an end “to bloodshed.”
“If I feel, if we’re in the midst of a negotiation, you could say that I was very angry, pissed off, when Putin said yesterday that — you know, when Putin started getting into Zelensky’s credibility, because that’s not going in the right location, you understand?” Trump told NBC News’s Kristen Welker during a phone interview on Sunday.
The Russian president said Friday that his Ukrainian counterpart does not have the legitimacy required for a peace deal signature and suggested an interim government is needed, The Associated Press reported. Ukraine’s 2024 presidential elections were postponed due to martial law amid the war with Russia.
Putin said any agreement signed on to by Ukraine’s government could receive pushback.
“Under the auspices of the United Nations, with the United States, even with European countries, and, of course, with our partners and friends, we could discuss the possibility of introduction of temporary governance in Ukraine,” he said Friday, according to the AP, later saying that “democratic elections, to bring to power a viable government that enjoys the trust of the people, and then begin negotiations with them on a peace treaty” would be able to happen via the temporary governance.
Trump said he feared the call for a new leader would delay a peace deal.
“But new leadership means you’re not gonna have a deal for a long time, right?” the president asked Welker.
He then said if the Kremlin’s stance hampered peace negotiations, Russia would be hit with another round of sanctions.
“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia,” Trump told NBC News.
In the first months of his second term, Trump and his administration have made a big push to end the war in Ukraine, meeting with people from both sides of the war even in the face of controversy about the countries’ actions.
On Sunday, Trump said he also “was pissed off” about Putin’s comments about temporary governance and that his anger about Putin’s comments had been made known to Moscow.

sleep well peeps...when hasn't pootie gone back on his word?
Rump on Putin: ‘I don’t think he’s going to go back on his word’
The president had earlier said he was “pissed off” with the Russian president.
By David Cohen
03/30/2025 11:25 PM EDT
President Donald Rump said Sunday he basically trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin to do the right thing as he attempts to hash out a peace deal in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Rump said of Putin: “I don’t think he’s going to go back on his word. You’re talking about Putin. I don’t think he’s going to go back on his word. I’ve known him for a long time. We’ve always gotten along well.”
Rump’s words seemed to be a softening of his language earlier Sunday.
Saying he was “pissed off,” Rump had been critical of Putin in an interview with Kristen Welker of NBC. “If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia,” Rump said.
On Sunday night, the president did express displeasure over Putin’s criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whom Putin clearly doesn’t want to remain in power.
“Some of the things that he said over the last day or two,” Trump told reporters, “having to do with Zelenskyy because when he considers Zelenskyy not credible — he’s supposed to be making a deal with him, whether you like him or you don’t like him. So I wasn’t happy with that. But I think he’s going to be good.”
Trump has frequently expressed his own disapproval of Zelenskyy over the last months. On Sunday night, he added to that criticism by saying Zelenskyy may be backing away from the minerals deal that the Trump White House had been working on with him, in which Ukraine would trade mineral rights for American assistance.
That deal was to be signed the day in February that Trump and Vice President JD Vance had a blow-up with Zelenskyy in the White House.
“I see he’s trying to back out of the rare earth deal,” he said. “And if he does that he’s got some problems. Big, big problems. We made a deal on rare earth and now he’s saying, well, you know, I want to renegotiate the deal.”
During the campaign, Trump repeatedly said he was going to be able to end the Russia-Ukraine war on his first day on office. At this point, though, Trump said he doesn’t have a specific deadline for Putin to meet.
“It’s a psychological deadline. If I think they’re tapping us along, I will not be happy about it,” he said.

lardass is all over the place...imagine someone changing a deal...like tariffs...such a paper tiger...
Rump promises ‘big, big problems’ if Zelenskyy backs out of minerals deal
U.S. president accuses Kyiv of wanting to renegotiate the proposed agreement on Ukraine’s “rare earths.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is trying to “back out” of a minerals agreement with the United States, President Donald Rump said Sunday.
“I think Zelenskyy, by the way, he’s trying to back out of the rare earth deal, and if he does that, he’s got some problems — big, big problems,” Rump told reporters on Air Force One.
“We made a deal on rare earths, and now he’s saying, ‘well, you know, I want to renegotiate the deal.’ He wants to be a member of NATO. Well, he was never going to be a member of NATO. He understands that, so, if he’s looking to renegotiate the deal, he’s got big problems,” Trump said.
Zelenskyy on Friday emphasized that Ukraine will not accept a minerals agreement that would jeopardize its accession to the European Union.
“Nothing that could endanger … Ukraine’s accession to the EU can be accepted,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha doubled down on that condition Sunday when he said Ukraine will never accept anything that would make the country weak.
“We can see this Russian strategy and will never accept anything that leaves Ukraine weak or defenseless,” Sybiha said. “To the contrary, a real and fair peace requires strong and long-term security guarantees to preserve it.”
The comments come on the back of Washington’s latest minerals offer to Kyiv, which would grant the United States access to Ukraine’s oil, gas and minerals through a joint investment fund that would split the revenue of those projects between the two countries.
Zelenskyy said that the latest draft of the deal included “many new provisions that were not previously discussed,” as well as “some aspects that had already been rejected by both sides,” according to Ukrainian media.
Bloomberg reported Friday that Ukraine will ask for changes in the deal that will commit the U.S. to more investment as well as for further clarifications on how the joint reconstruction fund would work.
Meanwhile, Russian state media reported that Moscow and Washington have started discussing their own rare earth minerals deal.
“Rare earth metals are an important area for cooperation, and we have certainly started discussions about various rare earth metals and projects in Russia,” Putin’s envoy on international economic and investment cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, told Izvestia.
The U.S. and Ukraine were originally set to sign a minerals deal on Feb. 28, but that fell through following a public spat in the White House during which U.S. Vice President JD Vance accused Zelenskyy of being ungrateful.
