🚨BREAKING | The two main water desalination plants in Deir al-Balah
Municipality have stopped operating after Israel cut off electricity.

The municipality has warned of a looming humanitarian disaster for hundreds
of thousands of Palestinians living in central Gaza.

NEWS | Israel’s Ynet, citing Israeli officials, claims a “localized fault” is
responsible for the power cuts to two desalination plants supplying 70% of Deir
al-Balah’s water. But, Israel is now blocking repairs at these crucial facilities,
stating they are “not yet approved for security reasons” due to ongoing military
operations in the area.

Since October 7, Israel has provided no electricity to Gaza except through the
Kela line, which only powers these two plants. The Israeli military justified the
decision to its citizens, saying it was necessary to prevent disease that could
threaten its soldiers and hostages. Now, Israel acknowledges the line has failed
but refuses to repair it.

Israeli officials insist the failure is unrelated to its broader blockade of
humanitarian aid, contradicting the Deir al-Balah municipality’s earlier claim
that Israel deliberately cut the power. Still, Water and Energy Minister Eli Cohen
told Channel 14 he will push Netanyahu to cut the electricity line entirely at the
next cabinet meeting.

Mehdi Hasan reposted Congressman Greg Casar:

The Israeli government’s decision to block food, medicine, and all other aid from
entering Gaza is collective punishment. That’s horrific and unacceptable.

Both Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in January. That deal has saved
lives — both parties should abide by it and ensure the agreement moves
forward as intended.
