Journalist, Jeremy Loffredo

According to Addameer, a prisoner rights NGO based in Ramallah, one form of
“duel torture” used at the Al Moscobiyeh interrogation center [where I was held in
solitary confinement for committing journalism] involves deliberately moving a
prisoner to the cell next to another security detainee and torturing them. The
intention is to subject the detainee to the sounds of their fellow inmate’s screams
and cries, amplifying their psychological torment.

On October 11th, despite an Israeli court order for my release, I was returned to
my solitary confinement cell without explanation. Shortly after, a Palestinian
prisoner was deliberately placed in the cell next to mine and subjected to brutal
torture for approximately three hours.

The sounds of his screams and cries filled my cell — an inescapable reminder of
the incredible cruelty being inflicted just beyond my reach. When the noise finally
stopped, two intelligence officers came to my cell and transported me to a
military base in the West Bank for interrogation.

After learning that this is an unofficial method of torture and torment, it’s clear to
me that the intent was to instill fear before my interrogation, to pressure me into a
confession or an admission of guilt.

Very few pictures exist of this giant West Bank compound I was taken to for all of
my interrogations. It’s referred to as “Shia Compound.”

The compound sits atop a mountain across the highway from Ma'ale Adumim,
one of the largest illegal Israeli Settlements.

I was able to locate Shia Compound on Google maps and B’Tselem published a
photo of it when it was originally built in 2008.

Clever. Torture propaganda.

No wasted effort.

And your point is?
