were they American bombs?

Israel commits a massacre in #Rafah this evening, dropping several 2,000
pound bombs on civilian tents and #UN compounds, murdering dozens of
civilians seeking shelter. This was Israel’s response to the
@CIJ_ICJ ruling Friday that it must halt its offensive on Rafah.

Were there tunnels underneath the area?
2000 pound bombs are bunker bombs.

Just curious. Your article didn't say.

If there were tunnels there might be some reason to use
bunker bombs, if not, even if Hamas senior officials
and retinue were hiding out in those tents, those bombs
are too extreme.

@Hind_Gaza
A lethal massacre is unfolding against displaced civilians near the UNRWA
logistics base in Tal Al-Sultan, located in the western part of Rafah. Israeli
aircraft have shelled several tents in this area, resulting in numerous martyrs
and casualties. Many have been transported to the Tal Al-Sultan clinic and
the field hospitals near the sea of Rafah. At present, numerous individuals
remain stuck under the flames and in the tents destroyed by the
bombardment.

It is important to note that this location was classified by the Israeli
occupation as a humanitarian area, and citizens were coerced into
evacuating to it.

Calling the dead "martyrs" is straight out of the Hamas
playbook.

So for Hamas, however many is too few.

"It is important to note that this location was
classified by the Israeli
occupation as a humanitarian area, and citizens were
coerced into

Israelis say they had precise intelligence as to where
Hamas officers were located and targeted it. The moral
of this story is that they will eliminate Hamas
wherever they are. Note to civilians: do not
fraternize with the enemy.

This bombardment is what comes from Hamas officials
wrapping civilians around them.

Do you realize characterizing the dead as martyrs puts
your message, whatever the source, as suspect? Your
message did not mention Hamas, and appears to have been
written as coming from their camp.

How many Israeli martyrs died deploying those weapons
and attempting to control the ground?

As for civilians, 100,000 dead weren't too many for
Hamas's Sinwar. What's a few more to Hamas? They are
valuable dead and injured as more propaganda, more
donations, more time.

If you care about the Palestinian people, eliminate
Hamas.

Fine.

The (apparent) objective of Israel is to eliminate
Hamas and maintain Israel.

The (apparent) objective of Hamas is to eliminate
Israel.

To that end Israel, to protect civilians, have ordered
them out of Rafah, and announced it's intent to take
the war there. Anyone left should have known what was
coming.

To that end Hamas wraps itself in civilians, hides out
near UN posts and celebrates each death as a martyr.
One hundred thousand martyrs not too many.

Hamas holds a gun to the head of a starving child and
says there are plenty more to replace it. What do you
do?

The Israeli view is the way you hold down casualties is
to win the war quickly. Netanyahu has the families of
hostages and soldiers biting at his heels.

War. What good is it? Ask Hamas.

your defense of the war crimes is shocking. gaza is only 25 miles by 7
miles. it’s only 141 square miles and israel keeps dropping 2,000 lb
bombs, using artillery, missiles and other heavy ordnance on this small
area containing 2 million people. israel’s conduct is a war crime and a
crime against humanity. they are hurting their own future as it may be
difficult for them to obtain weapons in the future as they have become a
rogue nation violating international law

I'm not defending war crimes any more than you are
stumping for Hamas. (You aren't, are you?)

Months ago I told you this would happen. That doesn't
mean I support it, it does mean if I knew someone
there, I would tell to leave. Word to the wise, be
quick to flee... I think I said that at the time, too.

After a lifetime of watching wars, a child of soldiers
and living through nuclear drills as a child, cold war,
friends killed, I do not pretend to be surprised or
shocked when wars kill innocents or civilians
especially when the "military/terrorists" hide in
civilian camps.

Israel's apparent position, (one can only surmise the
apparent) is that Hamas crossed their line and for
survival, cannot allow it to happen again. If Hamas
doesn't want their civilians killed they know what to
do. They certainly didn't care about Israel's. It has
been no where near the 100,000 Hamas said would not be
too many to attain their "loftiest goal".

Personally I am deeply sad with Hamas for escalating
the struggle to this level and Netanyahu for not ending
it more quickly. Gaza is small, after all, and Israel
is following the US example of bombs, not infantry.
But I am not going to hate the Palestinians or Israelis
for being caught in the middle of insanity they did not
want.

Nor am I going to pretend it's Biden's fault and by
omission promote Trump who would/might be so, so much
worse according to his own statements and more
importantly, alliances.

I do not know to what backstories we are not privy. Is
Netanyahu aligned with Sunni Saudis (and Trump) to
create a Singapore of the ME with world influence and
gain over Shiite Iran and therefore must eject the
Iran-backed Hamas? Will this extend MBS's power and
create a Trump Gaxa? Will this allow Israelis to sleep
safely and Palestinians to begin a century of healing?
Or just set up the Saudis for their next battle?

I did write a lot, but you complained previous post was
too short...

No, I'm not defending Israel. That was just what I see
happening.

Defense would be incessant posts and demonizing the
other side. What Akira does by reposting Hamas
propaganda without considering an alternative reason or
differing objectives and then putting derogatory
headlines against a perceived enemy (Biden but not
Trump?) is defense. I'm not mentioning one or a few,
but all posts seem straight out of the propaganda
factory.

I don't have to demonize Hamas. They do just fine on
their own. Israel on this board, needs recognition as
something other than the Hamas view not for balance but
depth of understanding.

everyone seems to agree that hamas is basically a terrorist organization,
and this isn’t a trump/biden issue. the issue here is that israel has
conducted themselves in the most brutal way, with no regard for civilian
casualties, killing large numbers of women and children along with
journalists, aid workers any anyone else in the area. israel is violating
international law with no regard for civilian casualties. that is not

If this isn't a trump/Biden issue, then why demonize
Biden, and ignore trump, whose statements of his bias
and proposed activities are so more egregious just
months before an election? All the attention on Biden
is one sided. Blaming Biden alone is Putin's dream for
Trump as President cutting the ribbon to Eastern
Europe.

Israel has been brutal and in their way, even worse,
ineffective, leading to more loss of life. The
management of the population has been a horror. Who is
responsible? When Israel began the shooting the
noncombatants should have been identified and cared
for, it's not that easy, but I don't know why or the
particulars. It seems to me an logistics issue, and I
thought they would be better than the disaster proves.

And Israel is committing war crimes by denying food,
shuffling people about with no apparent organization,
etc.

Journalists who bring a pen to a gunfight should expect
no less than what they see around them. It's a war. A
modern war with selfies and video as never before.

This is not merely Hamas as terrorists. This is Hamas
shielding their operations in babies. You don't think
*that* is a war crime? Hamas has also denied their own
people food if it didn't come from Hamas at the point
of a gun, another war crime.

So, admit Hamas also commits war crimes, all is not on
Israel. It just isn't that simple. This war would be
over if Hamas wasn't happy with the way it's going, and
they are encouraged, cheered on, happy that the world
wide web sees the babies they push in front of them as
victims of Israel and Hamas as invisible.

Hamas has the power to stop this war in a heartbeat.

israel isn’t just shooting, they keep dropping large bombs including 2,000
lb bombs on densely populated urban areas. that is why the civilian death
toll has been so high. that is why journalists , aid workers and medical
personnel are dying. and it is just odd to keep talking about trump who

Originally throwing bunker bombs at bunkers made more
than sense. It was the only way to destroy tunnels.
Tossing bunker bombs on tents (?!#) sends a political
message to Biden, a message to the UN, and a message to
Hamas: Israel is going to do it Netanyahu's way. F***
you. I do not believe the apology, it was too big a
bomb, it was too important a decision. Both too
valuable to leave to underlings.

One reason Israel has so much support in Congress and
little opposition to the methods is the Republicans who
depend on Trump for direction. Especially in a year
when his influence has been demonstrated in other
issues, this one matters to Congress and I don't
understand why Trump's position doesn't matter to you.

The IDF says the bomb/missile they dropped could not

No link...sorry.

So, was this a 2000 pound bomb or not? Does it matter
