The Deir Yassin massacre took place on April 9, 1948,
when Zionist paramilitaries attacked the village of Deir
Yassin near Jerusalem, killing at least 107 Palestinian
villagers, including women and children.[1] The attack
was conducted primarily by the Irgun and Lehi, who were
supported by the Haganah and Palmach. The massacre
occurred during the 1947-1948 civil war in Mandatory
Palestine and was a central component of the Nakba and
the 1948 Palestinian expulsion and flight.[4][5]

On the morning of April 9, Irgun and Lehi forces entered
the village from different directions.[6] They massacred
villagers using firearms and hand grenades, killing
women and children indiscrimately as they emptied the
village of its residents house by house.[7][8] The
inexperienced militias encountered resistance from a few
armed villagers and suffered some casualties.[9] The
Haganah directly supported the operation, providing
ammunition and covering fire, and two Palmach squads
entered the village as reinforcement.[10] A number of
villagers were taken captive and paraded on the backs of
trucks through West Jerusalem, where they were jeered
at, spat upon, stoned, and eventually murdered.[1][11]
[12] In addition to the killing and widespread looting,
there may have been cases of mutilation and rape.[13]

Despite an original boast by the Jewish militias that
254 Palestinian Arabs had been killed, modern
scholarship puts the death toll at around 110, with the
number of wounded estimated to be between 12 and 50.[14]
[better source needed] Four or five of the attackers
were killed and around a dozen wounded.[1]

News of the killings was widely publicized, sparking
terror among Palestinians across the country,
frightening many to flee their homes in anticipation of
further violence against civilians by advancing Jewish
forces.
The massacre greatly accelerated the 1948
Palestinian expulsion and flight and strengthened the
resolve of Arab governments to intervene, which they did
five weeks later, beginning the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.
[4][15] The Haganah denied its role in the attack and
publicly condemned the massacre, blaming it on the Irgun
and Lehi, and the Jewish Agency for Palestine, sent
Jordan's King Abdullah a letter of apology, which
Abdullah rejected, stating that "the Jewish Agency
stands at the head of all Jewish affairs in Palestine".
[4]

Four days after the Deir Yassin massacre, on April 13, a
reprisal attack on the Hadassah medical convoy in
Jerusalem ended in a massacre killing 78 Jews, most of
whom were medical staff.[16][17] Material in Israeli
military archives documenting the Deir Yassin massacre
remains classified.[18]

You present the Palestinians as perfect victims when
they initiated violence.

Did the villagers initiate violence? Had they refused
Israelis the road that moved through their town? We
won't learn that from your posts.

The charter that set this situation up appears to have
been designed for such conflicts. To come down on one
side vs the other is to play their game, and I won't.
The tragedy is neither side at the outset could see how
they were being played and refused to join together and
beat the charter.

The result is that all lose.

"...To come down on one
side vs the other is to play their game, and I won't."

But you are. Why won't Isreal stop its indiscriminate
bombing, starving and denial of water of an entire
captive population?

This whole situation is as lopsided as anything can get.
Palestinians are an occupied people. They have
international law behind them when they use any means at
their disposal to resist.
Hamas will never be eliminated unless every last
Palestinian all over the world is eliminated. The world
is witnessing what Isreal is doing--genocide. It can't
lie its way out of this one, especially after all the
declarations of intent over the years by its leaders.

Interesting.

"won't Isreal stop its indiscriminate
bombing, starving and denial of water of an entire
captive population?"

At one post it's indiscriminate bombing at another it's
targeted. At no point does having a population at risk
cause a call for Hamas to surrender in your posts.
It's Hamas in the population of Gaza, they are partners
in the suffering of Palestinians. They should
surrender.

"Hamas will never be eliminated unless every last
Palestinian all over the world is eliminated"

What utter bullshit propaganda. I am not surprised you
wrote this because that has been the tenor of your
posts for years.

Hamas is not Palestinian, they need the Palestinian
people as victims to justify their horrific acts. They
are no more Palestinian than Netanyahu is Israel. Both
Hamas and Netanyahu have had protests against them. If
there is a difference, Hamas had control of food,
medicine, education and jailed or tortured all of it's
protestors.

Israel is wrong in many ways, their heavy handed
approach is destructive but not as destructive as Hamas
whose use of innocents is beyond genocide of strangers,
it is murder and torture of their own family. If they
cared about their families they would stop the war and
let the world aid organizations at the gate come in.

At one post it's indiscriminate bombing at another it's
targeted. Both. At no point does having a

cause a call for Hamas to surrender in your posts.
Why should anyone, any outsider, call for an
occupied people to do something that they are determined
to do--resist an occupier, and to which they are
entitled by International Law? Who would call for
Isrealis to do the same in reverse circumstances?

It's Hamas in the population of Gaza, they are partners

surrender.

"Hamas will never be eliminated unless every last

What utter bullshit propaganda. Not. What Isreal
has accomplished is to try to abolish an idea that is
within the Palestinian psyche, which is to rid their
homeland of cruel usurpers so that they can return in
peace. An idea cannot be killed. There will now always
be Palestinians, whether born there or not, whether Arab
or not. Never again. Isreal has made its bed. I'm
surprised that you have not realized this.

I am not surprised you

Hamas is not Palestinian, Really? Then who are they?

they need the Palestinian
people as victims to justify their horrific acts. They
are no more Palestinian than Netanyahu is Israel. Both
Hamas and Netanyahu have had protests against them. If
there is a difference,
Hamas had control of food,
medicine, education and jailed or tortured all of it's
protestors. It is Isreal that controls the entry of
food, medicine, products for education and jailed or
tortured Palestinian resistance--along with everyday Pal
adults and children. It also denies exit visas for
higher education, further medical care or for whatever
it pleases.

Israel is wrong in many ways, their heavy handed
approach is destructive but
not as destructive as Hamas whose use of innocents is

it is murder and torture of their own family. If they

! How much more upside down and backwards can these
statements be?

How far past the first couple of Pappe's statements have
you read/listened to?
It is past time for Isreal to end the carnage.
Mark my words--even if Hamas were to surrender and lay
down every last piece of its hardware, Isreal would
still continue the decimation until there were no
Palestinians left in Gaza and no indication that there
was ever a civilization or a culture there except for
some rubble. That statement is based on what the plans
were to begin with according to their own words.
