Subject: Need help with people reporting shaking in Phoenix area

We are in Arizona - Scottsdale. Just got a notification
from the Neighbors app about random shaking over the past
few days. Numerous people have reported this.
I have felt small tremors in the past here many times
over the 10 years I have lived here. I moved here from
Seattle and was there for the 6.8. I also felt
earthquakes all of the time while living there.
Can anyone provide some information?

Group expert in Seismology
(hopefully links will work...)
So, Arizona is like the majority of US states in that
it doesn’t have a state/regional network that is funded
by the US Advanced National Seismic System. Most states
are under the purview of the national network based out
of Golden, CO.
You can find AZ specific information about historical
earthquakes and seismic hazards at the Arizona
Geological Survey website:
https://www.azgs.arizona.edu/center-
natural.../earthquakes The Natural Hazards Viewer (link
on the left side of that page could be useful for just
knowing more about your area)
AZ does have a series of stations run by folks at
Northern Arizona University and they have earthquake
bulletins for notable events as well as links to
webicorders: https://aeic.nau.edu/index.html
There are quite a few possible seismic stations in
Arizona and this map shows which ones have metadata for
Nov 2024
https://ds.iris.edu/gmap/...
But that doesn’t mean the stations are actually running
or that they are sending data. For example, all the
dark blue circles are Raspberry Shakes.
Here is a map showing stations that should be sending
data that are used by the USGS for earthquake locations
(there are also some stations run by California on the
western edge of AZ that I didn’t plot here.)
So, if you want information about the most recent
earthquakes there, go to the USGS website and if you
don’t see anything, be sure that the “All Magnitudes
US” button is clicked. You can see the last 1 day, 7
days, or 30 days. (Or you can do a custom search and
choose any time period you wish.)
https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?
extent=30.5329,-117.83936&extent=38.4527,-105.32593&ran
ge=week&magnitude=all&listOnlyShown=true&timeZone=utc&s
ettings=true
If you don’t see any earthquakes in your area then
either the event was too small for the active seismic
stations to record or it wasn’t an earthquake (possibly
an explosion, sonic boom, etc). If you are really
curious, you should look up the Raspberry Shake
stations near you in the Valley of the Sun. I don’t
know how to do that, but there should be information
online and I know that some members of this group have
Raspberry Shakes and know how to view the data.

at times I though the same here in TN.
I figured it was Elon Musk drilling a cross country tunnel for the DOD
as a super highway in prep for a war.
it would go for a while, then stop.

There's a smattering of minor quakes near the Ariz/Utah
border. (see link)
I don't see any around Scottsdale.

Perhaps there is some other explanation. Is there a
military base nearby? Construction? Mining operations?

I know that here there was a lot of talk about
"shaking" and it turned out to be sonic booms...most
likely jets from Edwards.

Mining can use blasts to loosen rock, causing shaking.

Heavy construction ..sometimes they blast to open up to
lay a foundation.

We know the weight of water can cause minor shacking. And also
excavation that you mentioned.

@ link is an article about raising the capacity of Bartlett lake. North of
Phoenix and Scottsdale.

Something to take into consideration. We are
not in the far north part of Scottsdale.
Phoenix area part of Scottsdale.
