Subject: update on methane in Ventura |

After lifting the evac for a couple days, they are once again putting evacuation orders in place due to what they are calling "extremely dangerous hydro carbon vapors" the source of which they still can't determine. Anyone else think this could have quake implications? Especially considering Malibu had another 3 yesterday.

There are mega oil deposits underground in that area. If you've driven through the hills around there, they're covered with oil pumps pulling it out. There's even above ground tar pools. Where there is oil, there's usually methane.
My best guess is look to that as the source.

The link above is the Ventura waste water treatment plant. It resides at the mouth of the Santa Clara River.
Very close to the 2800 block of Bayshore Av. where the methane was discovered.

Apparently when this incident began on the 19th, and they were saying it was a methane leak, they found the source to be petroleum that leaked into the sewer system from an unnamed source (gas station), and consequently officials are working on repairing the sewer line. But today the leak/vapor is showing up about a quarter mile away and they switched the language from methane to hyrdro carbon. So this may not be earth related but I'm still not ruling it out.
