Yesterday I decided to try to monitor lost pet ads. Pawboost.com seems to be the "go to place" these days, so I have been monitoring it.
Conclusion:
Not only has there been a SPIKE in lost Pets in the LA area.......but more particularly, they all seem to around that same area where the Quake hit on Monday, that 4.4!
I'm seeing a ton of pets lost in the last 24 hours from Compton, Walnut, Alhambra, Whittier, and South Central LA (Southgate, Pico Rivera, Rowland Heights, Torrance) region.
Which looks to me like where the San Jacinto fault line is, a fault that has had a ton of micros all summer long.
I wish there was a way to map this, put red dots where pets have taken off in just the last 24 hours.
I "think" these pets are trying to tell us something.
I had been working on the following analysis, when I suddenly noticed these patterns of multiple pets lost in the same zip codes!.....along the fault line that erupted last week with a 4.4M and along the San Jacinto fault line.
LA SF 8/16/2024 2,367 781 8/17/2024 2,374 785 change +7 +4

Hi Dee, Jim Berkland said to me when I talked to him he went by the number of lost cats as dogs were unreliable...... but I told him my take on it was the cats determined the intensity of the quake to come and dogs gave the closeness of those quakes.
Lome Prieta it was 2/3 dogs to 1/3 cats. the usual total number was near 25 total but when Loma was coming total jumped to well over 90 lost. most of this was a three week period before it hit October 17th.
I had watched what Jim was counting for almost 2 years before the Loma quake. my own dog had a reaction but being a house dog I saw it inside our home. three days before Loma my dog hid under my bed. I thought he might be sick. when i got home from work daily he would step outside just inches from the door and pee then run back inside under the bed. he use to lay with me on the couch while I got caught up on the daily news.
a few years prior to that we had a parakeet. she reacted to the Colinga and Morganhill quakes in the SF bay area. I think it was the 1986 quake as each one the bird would fly and scream for a while in the cage. my EX-wife water sprayed her down to calm her down, so she died of a heart attack. lost that one...
so keep a eye on your or neighbor pet's actions is best I can say. they may be a big clue as to timing...
PS my daughter's boy friend had two dogs that would scale a 6 foot fence and sit back to back in the middle of the street waiting for him to come home three days prior to quakes. observation is key.

Sorry I didn't capture the type of pets.
Just guessing I would say they are pretty even, between cats and dogs.
Interesting stories about your pets.
OK, I've been at this too many hours.....I've got things I've got to do.....I'm in Orange Cnty.

I have to say, all this scientific analysis aside, it is heart breaking to view all these lost pets, so many are so cute.
The pet owners must be in such grief.
I feel for them.
I pray that they find their lost pets.
