300 Aftershocks Following 5.2 Earthquake in California. USGS Raising Larger Quake threat. Wednesday

My thoughts: be ready for august 19 full moon. Might be more activity then.

Actually, having so many tiny aftershocks like that is a
"good" thing. it looks like a robust, but normal
pattern of what you would expect from a quake of that
size and type.

It's the land readjusting to it's new place in the world
after a shift.

It's when you don't see aftershocks, and it re-locks,
that you get a little concerned.

yeah, it can take a few days to get "all" the data in
and crunch the energy figures and get a final figure.

The initial preliminary estimates are fast-calculated by
computer and sent out so that first responders can get a
fast pinpoint of what they could be looking at and
where. Its rarely the final number.

This preliminary mag is usually changed when the
seismologists start reviewing and refining the data.

Main shock was 5.4M.

Someone reported a tsunami site had Mag higher too.

Odd that they can't agree on how big this shock was.
