After reading the article, I don't think Japan has moved 800 ft. The are affected by the quake has risen enough that there is 800 ft of new shoreline exposed in some places, measured horizontally from the previous high tide mark to the new high tide mark. I believe someting similar happened in the Alaska quake in 1963.

forshock or 22 April 2022–The 12 August 2021 South Sandwich Island earthquake had a surprise hidden within its complex rupture sequence: a slow, shallow magnitude 8.16 subevent that was “invisible” to researchers at first glance.

one more thing I have seen some images of severe street break up. I have a feeling it will be upgraded like the great Alaska quake was.
