Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes in North Bay, USGS reports

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.9, with an epicenter in northern Sonoma County in the Bay Area, struck Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The tremor hit at 7:45 a.m. PT with a depth of 1.7 miles (2.8 km). The epicenter was 4.3 miles (7 km) northwest of the Geysers, the world's largest geothermal field, approximately 72 miles north of San Francisco. The Geysers is known to be seismically active. People within the vicinity of the quake reported feeling light shaking.

There was no initial word on damage or injury resulting from the quake.

Possible foreshock. Supermoon shock window begins this weekend and running through next week. Definitely a heads up.
