A 5.2earthquake struck north west of Canyondale Calif., Friday 3:18am May 12, 2023 USGS
An aftershock with a magnitude of 5.2 struck Northern California's Plumas County early Friday morning in the aftermath of Thursday afternoon's 5.5 quake that hit the same area. The quakes were about 185 miles northeast of Sacramento, according to the US Geological Survey.
The aftershock was recorded at 3:18 a.m. with a depth of 3.78 miles near the town of East Shore that sits on Lake Almanor. More than 1,000 people reported feeling shaking, as far south as San Francisco and as far north as Redding, the USGS's Felt Report says.
Thursday's tremor was measured in the same area at 4:20 p.m. It's the largest tremor in California since the 2019 magnitude 7.1 Ridgecrest earthquake, seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones wrote on Twitter. Shaking was also felt in San Francisco by that one.
Since the main shock on Thursday, there have been some 20 aftershocks of magnitudes 2.5 and above, according to the USGS earthquake map.
Tucked between the towns of Chester and Greenville, East Shore is a town of about 150 people located about 80 miles northeast of Chico. The area was impacted by the Dixie Fire in 2021.

That would be Canyon Dam, not Canyondale.
The reason it's called Canyon Dam, is because it was created to service workers who built and service the dam, like PG&E. The Dam is about a mile away from Canyon Dam.
This poor town was completely destroyed in the Dixie fire, with the exception of government facilities, ie post office and Caltrans. Go figure.
And to lesson confusion, there is no such town of East Shore, it simply the east shore of Lake Almanor. There are several lake front resorts along the east shore.

If I'm not mistaken this is where Hearst had a country cabin (mansion).

Yes, Hearst family retreat is still there, on the McCloud river. Only accessible to only view it, by kayak or canoe.
It's located southeast of Mt. Shasta, and the town of McCloud.
I have not seen it in person, but heard about it.
Canyon Dam, Lake Almanor, and Lassen Peak, are quite a ways southeast of there. But they do have a couple things in common. They all share Hwy 89, and they all share Volcanos

Centered right under Lake Almanor
Today's quake resulted from normal faulting at shallow depth. There was a similar M5.5 near this location in March 1950

4.08 miles from our house, in the middle of the lake.
May 23 2013, ten years ago, only 12 days early of that anniversary , we had a 5.7 almost in that same location.
