Have one of my grown kids living in the Santa Cruz mountains ...right next to the San Lorenzo river. I was on the phone with her and also keeping in close texting contact.
She had to leave her car where she works in Boulder Creek because slides took out the main hwy between there and where she lives (Highway 9). She got out with a coworker who had a 4WD on a back-road that was still open, but apparently quite the ride with debris all over.
A couple years ago there was the huge CZU fire that burned through there. Daughter says their seeing whole, dead trees coming down the river, meaning the heavy rain and slides are sending them into the waterways. This is a danger...these dead trees and logs can create natural log jams that dam the creeks and rivers, then will suddenly bust loose causing very dangerous flash floods downstream.
Above is the Santa Cruz Sentinel article about flooding issues and slides.
hwy 101 was flooded south of SF on the peninsula and shut down for quite a while. And, I read that the town of Wilton, in the north-central part of the Central Valley is being evacuated due to "imminent levee breach"
We're good at our house right now...it's been snowing sideways. We're just going to light up the woodstove and stay put today, finish off the home made split pea and ham soup and watch nature do her thing from inside lol.
