That was a thrust quake, probably on the subduction fault
there. A little suprised there was no (even a light, near
only) tsunami..unless it was deeper than indicated on the
preliminary results...and that does happen once it's
reviewed more closely. We could find out it was deeper.

Bottom line was, it was most likely because the movement
did not break the surface of the fault under the ocean
for whatever reason.
