But also could be part of a larger fear campaign for
other less direct motives.

I really wish they wouldn't do things like that as when
the serious cases actually do hit, people overall are
becoming more and more desensitized and prone to
thinking it's all fraudulent, even when it's real.

In the short run people fall for it, in the long run it
trains people to associate all events with exaggeration
or worse, whether that's their motive or not.

Frustrating because there ARE so many serious events
right now and they ARE going to get worse, them mixing
the fake stuff in doesn't help.
